About VALOR Investigations and Thomas Duno

Thomas J. Duno is a twenty-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, a Licensed Private Investigator, a Licensed Armed Security Provider, and a Security Guard Instructor certified by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services.

Thomas Duno has over two decades of Police, Investigative, and Security experience. After working his way through Iona College and earning a B.A. in Psychology, Thomas began apprenticing as a Private Investigator with several agencies, learning the craft until joining the NYPD.

Tom has been a Licensed Private Investigator since 2001.

Tom graduated first in his Company in the Police Academy, and rose through the ranks as a Patrol Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Sergeant, and Lieutenant, with a spectacular record. Lieutenant District Commander Duno was last assigned to the elite Organized Crime Control Bureau, Narcotics Division, in Northern Manhattan and Central Harlem, where he lead several teams of Sergeants, Detectives, and undercover officers in conducting long-term investigations, surveillance, street enforcement, high-risk entry search warrants, apprehensions, and numerous trials.

Unlike some others in this business, Thomas has seen and actually done it all, in the field, with literally thousands of apprehensions, arrests, search warrants, and investigations in the Bronx, Washington Heights, and Harlem.

Highly decorated by the Department, Lieutenant Duno was honored by the New York City Rotary Club as the New York City Police Officer of the Year.

He was awarded the seldom bestowed Medal of Valor, from which is derived our company name. It also represents the mindset and philosophy for which we strive.

Tom is a member of the NYPD Honor Legion; the Fraternal Order of Police; the National Association of Investigative Specialists, and a former member of the American Society of Industrial Security; and the Associated Licensed Detectives of New York.

Since returning to the private sector, Tom has performed complicated assignments involving wrongful convictions, locating “hardcore” missing persons, homicidal deranged stalkers, unfit parents, organized insurance fraud, wrongful death cases, workplace violence, and domestic matters. He is currently planning a book based on his real world experiences.
